Shanghai: Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio has successfully tested a battery capable of covering more than 1000 kilometers on a single charge.

William Li, Chief Executive of the local company Nio in Shanghai, revealed that their electric car, the Nio ET7, covered a distance of 1044 kilometers in 14 hours, testing the efficiency of the battery. The vehicle maintained an average speed of 84 kilometers per hour, traveling from Jiangxi Province to Fujian Province.

In a specific trial, the battery demonstrated an even more impressive range, reaching 1145 kilometers.

Li emphasized on Weibo, a popular social media platform, that this battery currently holds the record for being the most energy-dense worldwide, boasting superior safety performance. Furthermore, the battery can be upgraded to 150 kilowatts via the power swap system, benefiting all Nio vehicles.

Nio has adopted an innovative approach by utilizing a battery swap system instead of traditional charging stations, allowing the replacement of an empty battery with a fully charged one in less than three minutes.

Consumers have the option to use batteries in Nio’s network without purchasing them, paying a monthly subscription fee. In November, Nio announced that they provided over 3.2 million batteries to users through their network of more than 2000 power swap stations.

According to Nio, mass production of this groundbreaking battery is scheduled to commence in April 2024.
