New York: A recent report by Human Rights Watch has confronted Meta with allegations concerning the company’s censorship of posts advocating for Palestinian rights on its social media platforms.
According to the report, Meta has removed thousands of posts, including those promoting secure posts in favor of Palestinian rights. Multiple allegations have been outlined in the report, encompassing the removal of content, suspension or deletion of accounts, reduced engagement with content, and the inability to tag or follow accounts.
In the aftermath of the attacks between Israel and Gaza, which resulted in the tragic loss of over 20,000 Palestinian lives, including children, human rights organizations have identified numerous cases of online censorship across various countries.
In a statement within Elizabeth Warren’s letter, Human Rights Watch emphasized that Meta’s censorship is exacerbating the plight of Palestinians and calls for immediate action to address this concern. The report sheds light on a critical time when U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren has demanded information from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a letter regarding allegations of censorship on posts supporting Palestinian rights.
